The UUCAV Music Committee hosts concerts and workshops with local artists and special services with the UUCAV Choir. The UUCAV Arts Committee sponsors events throughout the year, including a community art show, line dancing, and a spring art fair in collaboration with the Stow Area Guild of Artists (SAGA).

Music and the arts connect us to our feelings, memories, histories, and one another. When we make music and art together, we strengthen community, deepen belonging, and open ourselves to transformation and renewal. They inspire us to do the work of justice, challenge inequity, heal the harms of the world, and kindle hope in our hearts.

At UUCAV, you will find welcoming, nurturing spaces where all are invited to rediscover their love for music and art. Every song, collage, poem, or dance is a new opportunity to enact the transformational power of love. Whether you are an experienced singer, play in a band, love to dance, or are rediscovering your love for painting, your gifts will be welcomed and celebrated in our community.

Ways to Get Involved

Whether you sing, play, dance, make visual art, help organize events, or simply want to try something new, there are many ways to take part in the creative life of UUCAV. All experience levels are welcome.

Choir

Rehearsals:

The UUCAV Choir performs music of all genres from Renaissance motets to spirituals and folk songs, representing a variety of languages and cultures. The choir sings at Sunday morning services from September through June and welcomes new members throughout the year. Weekly rehearsals are a fun and uplifting time to sing together.

You can give the choir a try for one of our services, including a holiday vespers, Christmas Eve, Music Sunday, or one of our monthly Open Choir Sundays. No previous experience is necessary! Youth are welcome in the choir, and children of all ages are invited to sing at special services throughout the year. Art Gallery

The UUCAV Art Gallery offers space for visual art to inspire reflection, conversation, and connection within the congregation and wider community. Exhibits rotate throughout the year, usually remaining on view for a month or two, and most often feature the creativity and collections of UUCAV congregants. We are fortunate to have many gifted artists in our community, and the gallery also creates opportunities to share beloved works from our families and personal collections. The Art Gallery is located on the first floor of the Connector, outside the main office and Community Room.

Writers’ Group

The UUCAV Writing Group offers a low-key, supportive space to explore storytelling, memoir, and fiction, with no prior writing experience required. Each session includes quiet writing in response to a prompt, with the option to share and receive positive, supportive feedback focused on what resonates and works well. This is very much about exploration and enjoyment, not critique or performance. To help build trust and connection over time, the Writing Group is offered as a committed small group rather than a drop-in activity. Advance registration is required, as space is limited. The group meets during the fall and spring and takes a break during the summer months.

Monthly Ukulele Meetup

3rd Wednesdays, 7 pm, Community Room

UUCAV hosts monthly ukulele gatherings for players who want to practice, sing, and share music with others. Uke lovers of all levels (including beginners!) are welcome. We have extra ukuleles for anyone who would like to try one, and everyone is welcome to come sing along. Contact Pat or Sue for more information, and check the calendar for the next session.

Parish Jazz Band

2nd and 4th Mondays, 7:30 pm, Sanctuary

Each year the Parish Jazz Band plays during several services as well as at events in the greater community. The group concentrates on jazz classics, bebop, and modal jazz. The ensemble has regular members and welcomes guest musicians and vocalists from the congregation (especially our youth) and the wider community. Spiritual Growth and Community Center

As an outreach program of UUCAV, the Spiritual Growth and Community Center (SGCC) offers programs, classes, and events that awaken curiosity, joy, compassion, and personal growth for the mind, body, and spirit. Founded at the Unitarian Church of Marlboro and Hudson in 2008 and now at home in Stow following the merger, the SGCC fosters a welcoming community where people can explore meaning, deepen connection, and nurture practices that transform individual lives and our interconnected world. Offerings include meditation groups, book discussions, creativity studios, spiritual practice circles, seasonal gatherings, and other opportunities for learning and reflection.

The UUCAV Arts Committee celebrates and cultivates creativity as a path to spiritual growth, connection, and joy. We create spaces where art, as both process and product, draws out the creative spirit within our congregation, offering renewal to all and awakening the imagination for the work of service and justice in the world. Grounded in love, we embrace the transformational and interconnected power of the arts to educate, inspire, heal, and delight, nurturing belonging and dialogue within the congregation and throughout the wider community.

Music Committee

The UUCAV Music Committee supports and enriches the musical life of the congregation, nurturing music as a source of meaning, connection, joy, and shared purpose. In partnership with the Music Director, staff, musicians, and community members, we help sustain worship music, concerts, workshops, ensembles, and the care of instruments and musical resources. We seek to create musical experiences that welcome many voices, honor a wide range of traditions and identities, deepen our relationships with one another, and open our hearts to the world beyond our walls. Through care, collaboration, and welcome, we help music flourish as a living expression of who we hope to become as a community.
